ABOUT

RMS Carpathia photo

The history of RMS Carpathia ship, whose name comes from the mountain range of the Carpathians, leads us to early 1900s. The transatlantic passenger steamship was designed for immigrant trade but the ship became popular with both tourists and emigrants. At that time, many migrants from Romania regions Banat and Transylvania traveled to America on board this vessel.

In April 1912, RMS Carpathia became famous for rescuing the survivors of RMS Titanic. Carpathia braved dangerous ice fields and diverted all steam power to her engines in her rescue mission. More than 700 survivors of the Titanic shipwreck were safely returned in New York with RMS Carpathia.

During his service in the First World War, while sailing in the Southwest Approaches, RMS Carpathia was torpedoed by an Imperial German Navy submarine. Carpathia sank approximately 190 km west of Fastnet Rock, the most southerly point of Ireland, also known as "Ireland's Teardrop", because it was the last part of Ireland that 19th-century Irish emigrants saw as they sailed to North America.

OUR TRUST

After more than 100 years, we want to revive the spirit of RMS Carpathia and bring it back home, toghether, in the place which inspired her name.

We believe that on its way to the Carpathian Mountains, her spirit could inspire us individually or as part of different communities we are part. As we propose a symbolic ride by bike, we mainly focus to empower around her a community of trust between cycling lovers communities regardless of any criteria which could separate us apart. We want to create a shared experience to unite us and inspire in our day by day passion for cycling, nature and trust between people.
